ISSUES OF PLAGIARISM IN THE PROCESS OF SCIENTIFIC PAPER PUBLICATION

Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp. 9-11

Plagiarism is defined as the act of using another person’s words or ideas without giving credit to thatperson. Due to the habit of composing written reports by copying and pasting from internet sources or others intellectual property, plagiarism has emerged as a dangerous burden in higher education processes. Plagiarism is the “wrongful appropriation” and “purloining and publication” of another author’s “language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions”, and the representation of them as one’s own original work.

Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and it is a serious ethical offence. Some schools may adopt very severe measures against plagiarism including dismissing of thestudent. Cases of plagiarism can constitute copyright infringement and thus individuals can be legally prosecuted. There are dedicated programs to check how much a manuscript or a written test is original orcopy/pasted.

EFFECT OF ZEOLITE “DIET” ON SOME INDICATORS OF WHITE MICE HOMEOSTASIS

Tbilisi State Medical University, V. Bakhutashvili Institute of Medical Biotechnology, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp. 30-34

The used dose of zeolites (5% food supplement) was non-toxic and lethal to intactmice, has not cause allergic reactions. Zeolite “diet” has been followed by the improvement of protein indices in blood of mice. Particles of clinoptilolite (in the forage) are able to induce a more active immune-morphogenesis in intestinal tissues, regional lymph nodes, spleen and thymus. Zeolites promoted strengthening of phagocitosis, increased quantity of phagosomes and lisosomes, i.e. raised functional activity of cells. Zeolite “diet” contributed to the activation of phagocytosis and antioxidant protection in Kupffer cells of the liver. The presented preliminary data indicate the possibility of using the zeolite “diet” in comprehensive treatment of various diseases.

ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

Tbilisi State University, Al. Natishvili Institute of Morphology, Tbilisi, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp. 34-38

The aim of the present study was to estimate the share of the people with Arterial Hypertension (AH), to evaluate the age-dependent changes of the Blood Pressure (BP), and  predisposition of this disease towards with the frequencies of the red cell antigenes of  the classical blood group systems that are clinically important: ABO, Rh, MN, Kell-Chellano (Kp), Duffy and P.

The sample consists from 544 individuals, rural residents of the Georgian population of Terjola district. The study of the genetic markers was carried out according to the standard methodology. The association between studied genetic markers and disease was estimated by the Logistic Regression Analysis.

The share of the people with AH was 39.4%, 37.9% among men and 41.6 % among women. The genetic structure of the population, with positive or negative relationship of different antigens with AH should be taken into the consideration along with several statistically significant determinants of hypertension. The obtained results showed that AH was related with Kpb antigen (OR-2.5087; 95% CI-1,055-5,962; x2-4.55; p<0.05). This interesting correlation needs to be explored further.

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp. 38-43

The aim of this article is to show the development of bronchoscopy from the end of 19th century to the present day. Considering the huge potential and the development of technology, show the future possibilities of bronchoscopy. The role of NCTLD bronchology department in introduction of advanced bronchoscopic techniques in Georgia.

In this article presented some cases of bronchoblocation, airway stenting and endobronchial laser resection, performed by our team for the first time in Georgia. Also are shown the statistics on the number of bronchoscopy in our department in comparison of post soviet countries, USA and leading european countries. Number of bronchoscopy in the leading countries per 100 000 inhabitants is 10 times more then in Georgia, which means, that in case of launching the training center with appropriate material-technical base and efforts, we are in front of great prospects to developing interventional bronchoscopy and accordingly the pulmonology in our country.

At various lung diseases when medical therapy has exhausted its possibilities, and the operation is contraindicated, medicine is not giving up, in the foreground are the modern methods of bronchoscopy and the fight against the disease continues.

The hygienic state of oral cavity in patients, suffering from the various forms of hemoblastosis

David Agmashenebeli University of Georgia, Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology,  Tbilisi

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp. 43-47

Poor oral cavity hygiene has an influence on the pathological changes in the oral cavity of patients, suffering from the various forms of hemoblastosis. At this time a dental plaqueis created, on which many pathogenic bacteria and microbes are accumulated.

Proceeding from the above-said, before and in the process of the treatment the patients suffering from the various forms of hemoblastosis should carefully follow the hygienic norms of oral cavity for avoiding the complication of basic disease duration and the prolongation of the treatment process.

Total of 62 patients suffering from the various forms of hemoblastosis were under the observation. Among them were 29 women and 33 men. The patients were divided into 2 groups: experimental – 47 and control – 15 patients.

As a result of the observation, a sharp decrease in hygienic index was revealed after the treatment, which evoked the improvement of oral cavity and general state of the patients, suffering from the various forms of hemoblastosis. A reliable difference (p<0.05) was revealed while comparing the results of hygienic index study both before and one month later, as well as at the comparison of the data obtained at 10 day and after one month of the treatment.

The observation has shown that such patients should be under permanent dental observation for increasing the remission of stomatologic pathologies and avoiding their relapses. The remote observations should take place not later than 4-5 months.

WITH PERIODONTITIS

D.Aghmashenebeli Georgian State University; Tbilisi State Medical University;

TSSU V.Bakhutashvili Institute of Medical Biotechnology, Tbilisi, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp.53-55

The content of the cytokine, TNFα, IL-2 nd IL-10 in the blood of patients suffering from periodontitis before and after laser therapy was investigated. It was shown that the content proinflamatory cytokines (TNFα, IL-2) in the blood of both healthy individuals and patients with periodontitis characterized by high variability. The level of IL-10 in the blood of the control group (healthy volunteers) was very low and significantly increased in patients with periodontitis. Laser therapy (7 days) induced to reduction level of TNFα, IL-2 and IL-10 in the patients blood suffering from periodontitis. These data indicates that laser therapy is able to modulate the inflammation in the periodontal tissues.

THE BALANCE OF CYTOKINES IN THE BLOOD OFDIABETIC PATIENTS

WITH PERIODONTITIS

D.Aghmashenebeli Georgian State University; Tbilisi State Medical University;

TSSU V.Bakhutashvili Institute of Medical Biotechnology, Tbilisi, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp.63-66

The content of cytokines (TNFα, IL-2 IL-10) in the patients’ blood with diabetes affered with periodontitis and without it was investigated.

The research results suggest that the content of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the blood of patients (TNFα, IL-2) is characterized by high variability, which makes notpossible to use them as diagnostic and prognostic markers of periodontitis. At the same time, the level of IL-10 in the blood of patients in the control group (without periodontitis) was too low. Controversially, the level of IL-10 in patients’ blood with periodontitis (especially serve core of disease) significantly increased. This data provides an opportunity to consider blood levels of IL-10, as a predictor of the development of periodontitis, and a marker of disease severity in patients with diabetes.

Analysis of the cytokines profile, as mediators of systemic inflammation, can be recommended for early detection of risk and the establishment of acute phase of periodontitis.

EFFECT OF SMOKING ON HEARING FUNCTION – AUDIOMETRIC DATA

National Center of Audiology; National Centre of Otorhinolaryngology; Simon Khechinashvili University Clinic;  TSMU, Department of  Otorhinolaringology;  Tbilisi, Georgia

J. Experimental and Clinical Medicine, 2016, 1, pp.72-78

Smoking and related health issues are the problem of global importance, but the results of the studies are contradictory. The purpose of our study was to estimate possible correlation of smoking to hearing loss.

Material and methods: The data were collected from December 2012 to December 2016. 1387 persons within the age range of 20-65 were involved into the research, among them 621 smokers and 30 nonsmokers (average age – 45.5±5.5) and 766 nonsmoker (average age 45.0±5.5) were involved in the present study. Timpanometry (testing of functioning of Eustachian tube and reflexometry) and pure-tone audiometry were used as a audiologic methods.

Our results are in accordance with the results of the studies confirming the negative influence of smoking of hearing function, especially, on high frequencies. Besides, our results show significant decrease of hearing threshold in men related to age and smoking status.

In conclusion, we suppose that smoking has significant negative effect on hearing function, especially neuro-sensoric apparatus.
